The
discomfort that is associated with traditional exercise bikes
can be overcome with the Recumbent exercise bike. More than
15-20 minutes on a traditional saddle is a challenge for the
majority of people. Those that are overweight, or who suffer
from lower back pain, find it especially disagreeable.
Recumbent bikes offer lower back support and
disperse the pressure of the upper body on the buttocks region
with armchair-like seats. Placing feet in stirrups and balancing
on such a small seat, as those on the traditional bikes, can
be difficult for overweight or older individuals. The recumbent
bike seats overcome both of these issues.
Bulkier than the traditional upright exercise
bikes, the recumbent bikes tend to take up less floor space.
And if you enjoy reading or watching TV while you work out,
then the reclined position makes it easier to do both.
Recumbent exercise bikes are not a great choice
for more seasoned road cyclists. The ergonomics and movement
patterns of a recumbent bike provide a totally different feel.
But for the majority, who are simply looking to improve their
health and fitness, the recumbent bike is the preferred choice
for comfort.
Here is a list of reasonably priced, quality
recumbent exercise bikes...
Weslo Pursuit 525CS Recumbent Bike
This is just about the lowest priced recumbent bike around.
Although basic, it is more solid than most others in this
same price range. A manually adjusted friction control option,
this model includes a basic console that offers the essential
read outs, minus the heart rate monitor.
ProForm VR980 Recumbent Bike (Our Pick)
Just slightly more expensive than the above Weslo,
the Proform replaces Weslo's manual friction resistance with
a smooth and consistent Eddy resistance mechanism. It's console
also features all of the regular readouts like calories, time,
distance, and speed, but the largest positive over the Welso
is that the Proform offers a pulse rate grip to monitor your
heart rate. On the whole, the best low cost recumbent exercise
bike.
Reebok
CYC12 Recumbent Bike
Priced at just under $600.00, the Reebok CYC12 is a well-built,
high quality machine. It offers a pulse grip heart rate monitoring
system, 6 pre-programmed work outs, and a large LCD display
that showcases all the data you'll need. the back rest and
seat are angled to reduce any undue pressure on your lower
back, making it a very comfortable machine.
